Welcome to Two PiGs in a Pod, a podcast FOR the people in glazing BY the people in glazing. Bringing the glazing sector into a brighter future are many brilliant people from right across the supply chain, and each episode will aim to shine a light on them, hearing their stories, debating the industry’s biggest talking points, whilst also getting to know them on a more personal level, discussing their careers within glazing and what the future of our sector looks like in their eyes. We will also speak to people from outside the sector, speaking to charities, schools and colleges, and from the wider construction sector to really try and have something for everyone whilst also getting a different viewpoint to the one we see day in, day out. In the first episode of the new season, George speaks to Glass and Glazing Federation (GGF) Technical Officer and Training Manager, John Mannell.
John discusses his unique journey into the sector, entering via the route of stained glass, despite having a grandfather owning a fabricating business since the 1950s.
John explains how he originally used the GGF for guidance, before becoming Technical Officer over three years ago to provide that guidance to members.
He also discusses recently taking on the role as Training Manager, helping to develop the routes into glazing, via schemes such as Skilled Pathways and GGF Training, and working with companies like Building Our Skills.

In this episode, host George is joined by Sam Weber, who has been part of the glazing sector since 1989, and is currently part of Team Sea Soar, a team of rowers taking on the incredible challenge of rowing across the Atlantic Ocean for charity.
Sam explains how he followed his dad into the industry, before venturing out on his own and forging his own career right across the glazing supply chain, and explains his excitement at starting in a new role early next year.
He also gives us the lowdown on his upcoming epic World’s Toughest Row across the Atlantic Ocean this month, how it came about, how he has prepared for it, what he is least looking forward to, and just how much stuff is needed for 50 days out in the water.
Sam also takes part in our quick fire question round, giving us his first and most recent gigs that he has attended, go-to breakfast, and what he sees himself doing in five years time (spoiler alert, it’s more wild challenges!).
